The 2009 Summer Reading theme is "Be Creative @ Your Library
Summer Reading begins Saturday, June 13, 2009 with a Kick-Off Party on the Central Library lawn. This summer we challenge you to read, or listen to, 15 books! Pick up a reading packet, keep track of your books and earn cool prizes after 5, 10 and 15 books:
- Read 5 Books: Receive a 2 for 1 coupon for the Aquatic Center. Swim with a friend!
- Read 5 More Books (10 total): Receive a mystery coupon. What could it be? Be sure to thank our Community Partners.
- Read 5 More Books (15 total): Congratulations! When you finish you'll be invited to the Recognition Ceremony with Mayor Pike on Friday, August 7. You'll also get a free book from the Friends of the Bellingham Public Library after the ceremony.

Dodson Room in the Children’s Library at the Central Library
Do you like Japanese animation and comics? The Bellingham Public Library Anime Club meets on the second Wednesday of each month to watch and talk about anime. June’s anime is: Trigun. Prize drawings. Pizza provided by Pizza Pipeline.
Teen Advisory Committee
Thursday, June 11, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Library Board Room
TAC is a steering committee whose roll is to advise the Teen Services Librarian on ways to make the library a better place for teens. We will meet to discuss new teen collections, Teen Summer Reading, upcoming and prospective programs and other issues. If you are interested in attending, please copy and fill out an application located on the “Teen Advisory Council” page linked above. I bring sweets, you bring ideas.
Teen Summer Reading – Express Yourself
June 13 through August 8, 2009
Read. Review. Win. Read or listen to a book, write up a quick “review” and enter to win one of many weekly prizes and one of a few grand prizes. Prizes include gift cards to Rocket Donuts, Village Books, Mallard Ice Cream, Merchbot and many more. Grand prizes will be for a shopping and movie extravaganza!
And don’t forget FINE FORGIVENESS. During Teen Summer Reading, submit a review and have up to $5 in fines waived off your card. For more info, see the “Summer Reading” link at the top of the page.
